About Nicole

Hi and welcome! My name is Nicole Durkan and I am the owner and lead photographer of Nicole Durkan Photography.

A little about me and my background. I was born and raised mainly in Vancouver, BC with small gaps as my dad had a unique job that took us to several very remote places in North America. In grade one I attended a one room school house on the Montana prairies - just like Little House on the Prairie, without the bloomers or chalk slate boards.

When I was 12 we moved to Northern BC where it was literally more than two hours to the nearest town, then we lived in the interior of BC and Southern Alberta. As an adult I moved to Victoria for two years and then had the wonderful urge to relocate again. I moved to England, met my now husband in the first two months, and ended up staying just shy of four years.

I fell in love with photography when my husband and I moved to Vancouver Island in 2009. A starter DSLR was my first real camera and I started taking photos of the amazing nature around us. That lead to photography night classes at Camosun College, teaching myself at home, and attending photography conferences. Over the past decade, I’ve thrown myself into my craft and a photography career that never stops giving.

I still love taking photos of my family on our adventures in the beautiful seaside community of Sooke. My frequent personal photography subjects are my amazing son, husband and two cats (one of whom is a tripod).

It always reminds me of what I want to provide others with - photography that captures the beauty of family.
